How to move past rumors that some won't let go?

How do you stop rumors from continuing? I yes did somethings I probably shouldn't have and I have done my sorrys and worked very hard to be someone else, which I am now. It has been 4 years and there are still people who can't let the past go and choose to continue to let me know in public the errors in my ways, which are not true anymore. There was also some rumors that I slept around with people which again are not true. I really am tired of this and can't understand why some just can't let the past go and choose to let others who know me now, how I was in the past. Help
