Is paint stripping hazardous to your health?

We just bought an old house that has a lot of lead paint. In my son's room, the lead paint is peeling and cracking off the moldings and we are deciding to have it stripped. I was told they are going to chemically strip it and was wondering if this is hazardous to your health? We will be moving into the house about 2 weeks after they strip the paint and then paint over it with a non-VOC paint. My son is only 4 months old and the fumes really worry me, but then again, so does the lead chipping paint. ARGH... any one know anything about this stuff? Should he live in another room for a while before moving into his room? How long should we wait?? Thanks!!
