Conductivity of graphene and graphite?

If graphite is made of layers of graphene, does graphite hav the same high electrical conduvtivity as graphene? i saw videos of graphite from a pencil under electricity and it just gets ridiculously hot which has gotta do with the resistance of it. Is it because of the way graphite is chemically arranged or is it just the purity of the graphite in the pencil.
